Australian bushfires
Donation protected
Me best friend Nick and I are both active in the Greek-life community at the University of Colorado Boulder. After hearing and seeing the real life horrors occurring at this very moment in Australia we decided we could make a difference. The best way we saw fit was to use our platform in the Greek system to reach the most amount of people in a short time period and give them a tangible way to make a difference in a serious problem. This was prompted by the overwhelming amount of coverage we saw on our social media, by our friends, about the fires, reassuring us that our peers really do care, and promoting the question that they may just not have access to ways to donate.
Being on a different continent and not exposed to as many resources to help as most organizations, we figured simply starting a GoFundMe would be the best way to help donate and raise money, and so far it has been incredible to experience.
CU promotes a very family oriented culture in the Greek system, one that is unique to CU and CU only. This family, comprised of over 18 fraternities, 9 sororities and over 3,500 individuals, is one that cultivates competitive growth from chapter to chapter and gives a unifying platform in instances of serious matters pertaining to / involving, all houses. Philanthropy is a large part of Greek life that is often overlooked by the public due to hazing and negative partying experiences that are covered heavily by the media.
We decided to use this natural disaster in Australia and the vast social system of caring individuals here, wanting to make a difference in their world, to draw the Greek community at CU together behind a common goal and MOST IMPORTANTLY help ave Australia, and the Koalas, from the fires.
We are distributing the donations evenly among these four organizations: The Australian red cross, The Australia koala foundation, NSW rural fire services and the disaster relief through the Australian salvation army.
