Our IVF Story

Robert and I fell in love ten years ago and we have been best friends ever since. On March 14, 2015 (Pi Day for you nerds) we made it official. About a year into our marriage we decided we were ready to add on to our little family. We tried for several months but alas, no baby.
It was time to consult a professional. Many tests later I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Due to complications from my PCOS I had to undergo surgery. No big deal. We could do this. Just a little bump in the road.
Once I was on the mend I began a regimen of clomiphene which made me hormonal. I cried...a lot. Every month Robert and I visited the doctor's office for checkups, sonograms, and ovulation monitoring. Every month we received a big fat negative on the pregnancy test.
After six months of fertility treatment we discovered I had to have a second surgery. Now I was left with no way of conceiving naturally but I was a prime candidate for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Not only were we the perfect candidates for IVF but we were candidates for Effortless IVF. This is similar to traditional IVF but has fewer doctor’s visits and sonograms which brought the cost down slightly.
So we regrouped, underwent more testing, and finally started the medication for Effortless IVF. Pills, injections, tenderness, more crying, it was a rough few weeks. I have to tell you, when we went into the doctor’s office and found out we had 17 follicles I was thrilled. I knew we were going to have our baby. I even figured out our baby would be born in April like my Grandma Pat. Retrieval day came and I could not contain my excitement. In five days Robert and I would meet our embryos. Sadly, none of the embryos lived past day four. Once again we were left devastated.
Our doctor is still optimistic. He believes we will have luck with traditional IVF. However, as with many medical procedures, they require a lot of funds. And so far this journey has been emotionally and financially taxing. We are now turning to family and friends to help us continue as soon as possible. In fertility age matters and time is a factor. We are hoping to start our next round of IVF at the end of September 2018.
