My special needs kids have lost the only home they've ever known.
I am a 56 year old disabled single father of two children under the autistic umbrella. Their mother, the financial support of the household, walked away from our 30 years together, causing the loss of our 18 year rent contolled apartment.
My disability came about as I was a victim of a violent armed robbery. I survived an execution style shooting to the head.
The traumatic brain injury left me with symptoms similiar to those of returning veterans of IED explosions and painful nerve damage from the 5 herniated lumbar discs.
This put my wife as head of household and me as full time caregiver to our two children.
Our divorce has just become final. I have full custody of my two kids. This allows me to file for SSI Disability and IHSS benefits. The process takes several months but that cannot begin until a fixed residence is established.
I can't secure a rental because I have no verifiable income nor the funds to deliver first and last months rent or security deposit. I was denied help from my bank of over 25 years.
Our car is nearing the end of its lease and must be returned soon. This will leave me without a means of transportation to get the kids to school, go grocery shopping and doctors appointments.
The kids have suffered enough. I simply want to restore normalcy and provide a safe, loving home for my kids.
I want to express my undying thanks to anyone who is able to help us at this time.
