As many of you know Amber has had one tough battle against Crohn's disease. Crohns is an autoimmune disease that causes the host to attack the digestive system. This results in weight loss, diarrhea, bloody stools, stomach pains and unrelenting nausea and vomiting. Everyone with Crohns is different and some cases are mild while others are severe. Ambers is one of the most severe cases her doctors have ever seen. This week the doctors at UNC said Ambers next step is going to the Mayo clinic in Minnesota. Over the past few years Amber has spent more days in the hospital than she has out of the hospital, yet she is still enrolled in graduate school at Vanderbilt, and is even taken additional classes she needs for pre-requisites to begin another program after graduating from Vanderbilt.
She has had over 30 blood transfusions and 10 + surgeries over the past 2 years. As you can imagine, all of this time in the hospital has taken a toll on Amber and her family financially. To make matters worse, Ambers insurance runs out on May 1st, because she will turn 26 on April 4th. Although Amber will start a new insurance, the benefits pale in comparison to that of her previous insurance. That is the purpose of creating this GoFundMe page. Any amount we can raise will help Amber and her family with current medical and travel expenses.
