Hello, I'm Melissa. Today, I find myself in a situation I never imagined I’m at risk for losing my housing. I may not be able to cover my basic expenses because I won’t have work for almost two weeks during the holidays (unpaid). Life has been a rollercoaster since the pandemic began, marked by unexpected challenges and relentless effort to stay afloat. I need help.
Initially, I lost my job at Stripe and shortly after I had an adverse reaction to the Pfizer vaccine (something I’m still impacted by). Despite these setbacks, I've found a silver lining in my current roles, teaching art to children and handling marketing. Teaching isn't just work; it's a passion. The kids I teach love me, and I can see the positive impact I'm making in their lives. Their enthusiasm keeps me going.
I was laid off again from Big Fish Games in May 2023, which depleted my remaining savings. Despite working full time and simultaneously driving for Uber Eats, working as an Art Director/Marketing Supervisor, and selling my artwork and my personal belongings, the financial strain has still been overwhelming. I’m just so tired (I’m sure many of you can relate).
To help me get through this period, I'm aiming to raise $3,500. This amount will cover my rent, utilities, loan repayments, and basic living expenses to get me through this shift (hopefully, it will be better after holidays are through).
Here's a breakdown of some of the costs:
- Rent: $2,000
- Phone: $75
- Internet: $100
- Car (including gas and insurance): $375
- Student Loan: $400
- Additional for food, gas, and other necessities: $550
As an artist, I want to give back to those who support me. For every donation, I'll create a piece of art as a heartfelt token of my gratitude. This is my way of saying a huge thank you for your kindness and support during this challenging period.
Your generosity means more than just financial assistance; it's a lifeline. Every donation, big or small, helps me immensely and brings me one step closer to being okay.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please consider contributing and sharing my campaign with others. I appreciate your love and grace during this humbling period.
I’ll continue looking for a roommate and pursuing other opportunities. Until success arrives, you and your support are deeply appreciated.
Lastly, if you know of anyone looking to hire freelance artists, marketers, copywriters, and/or voice over, please consider referring me: www.melissasolley.com
With sincere gratitude,
Melissa
(P.S. Special thanks to all of you who’ve helped me thus far — I love you.)
