I am asking for the support from friends, family, and kind strangers to help me raise enough money to cover expenses, while I am to study abroad for 7 months in South Korea. With the plane ticket and school tuition covered. I am asking for help to cover my meals, housing, local transportation, and other necessities.
While abroad I will be a part of two programs. One of which is called Dankook Summer Program . During this summer program I will be teaching Dankook University students English for three weeks while staying in a Global Village. Then I will move on to the academic portion of the program where I will be studying the Korean language. During this time, I will be partaking in extracurricular activities that involve visiting the DMZ, taking cooking classes, learning taekwondo, staying at a temple, and much more.
After this program is completed I will begin my semester abroad at Kyungpook National University (KNU) in the city of Daegu, South Korea. KNU is a top research school that is academically rigorous. I will be studying Korean culture while there. These decisions have influenced me to minor in Korean Language and Culture because what better place to learn about a culture than to fully immerse yourself into it.
Studying abroad will prepare me for the next part of my future, graduate school. I plan to apply to University Southern California's Global Communications program upon my return. This graduate program offers a dual degree from London School of Economics and another from USC.
My current college has prepared me for such goals in life, as I am an active member in my community and an intern with the Special Olympics. Having helped with what is happening in my own backyard, I hope to one day become a global citizen that helps bring change to some of the world's greatest challenges. Thus, studying abroad will further prepare me into becoming the global citizen I desire to become.
