Helping Kayla Get a Service Dog
Donation protected
Kayla is a young lady who has suffered with mental illness most of her life. She has been diagnosed with Complex PTSD, Anxiety, as well as other mental issues that prevent her from living a normal life. Her medical team of therapists have said a service dog would greatly improve her quality of life and allow her to go back to doing the things that she loves. As of right now the search for the right therapy dog is still underway, but the trainer is confident in their ability to assist in finding a dog that will be a good fit for her and the services that they will be needed for. Service dogs come a great expense because of the intense training and boarding that is put into a service dog. Up to $2000 a month of a trainer fees are just a small cost that it takes to get a service dog trained and ready. Vet, food and care during the boarding months as well. Any financial assistance would be appreciated.
Psychiatric service dogs are extremely expensive because they have to go through such rigorous training over the course of 5-8 months in order to meet the needs of the handler receiving the dog. The typical cost of a service dog can be anywhere from $20-40 thousand dollars, not including the life time of food and vet bills.

Why do service dogs cost so much? Service Dogs cost so much to obtain because of the length of time it takes to train a service dog.
Below is a sample of what the bill may look like for getting a service dog.
Traveling to get the dog- $100-$1,000
Training per month for boarding and training- $2,000+
Training Time: anywhere from 5-7 months- $10,000-14,000
Food, Toys, Vet Bills, Special Gear and Equipment- $100-700
Certifications- $100-300
And that is only to have the dog become a professional service dog, it doesn't include being certified again every year, or the tune up sessions you do with the trainer to ensure the dog continues to behave and knows how to do their job properly.
Please, if you feel moved to do so and are able, leave a little something. All we ask in the least though is for you to keep Kayla’s journey in your prayers as she begins the process of living a full life again.
