Hello, my name is Karla Farrington. Some of you may know my big brother, Jacob Thompson. Jacob is 26 years old, and recently our family received the heartbreaking news that he has been diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML), a type of bone marrow cancer.

CML has three phases: Chronic, Accelerated, and Blast. Jacob is currently in the chronic phase, which means the cancer was caught early. While this is the best-case scenario with this diagnosis, it does not make the journey ahead easy. Treatment requires lifelong medication, frequent doctor visits, regular lab work, and ongoing monitoring to prevent the disease from progressing.

Jacob is now being transferred to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa for specialized care. This means frequent travel for appointments, with a round trip of about three hours from our home in Orlando. Between gas, time away from work, and ongoing medical expenses, the financial strain continues to grow.

Jacob is strong, positive, and determined to fight this, but the financial burden that comes with a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. We are asking for help to ease some of this stress so Jacob can focus on what matters most (his health and healing).
