Pastor Tom Bartlett, my brother, along with his wife Carla and four of their children, Brooke, Tyler, Paige and Kai (4 years old on Nov 3rd, she has Downs) survived this horrific accident on October 7th, only by God's grace! They were driving home after celebrating Brooke's and Paige's birthdays on the 5th (they share the same birthday). Tom and I were to leave for Nairobi Kenya the following day on a missions trip. It was not meant to be.

While slowing down in traffic on I-78 the semi-tractor trailer came speeding up behind Carla and before she could finish saying he was going to hit them, they were flipping thru the air 3-4 times before landing. Thankfully they all survived! Praise God! If they had been in anything less than a Suburban, they would not have. They are all traumatized!Tom has the worst injuries and will have a 5th surgery on his right leg on Oct 20th. He has a rod and skin graft after breaking both lower bones. No one else broke any bones, but there were many bruises and some cuts from glass,  a concussion. Kai was properly strapped in her car seat and did amazing! God is so good!So many of their belongings, from clothing to eyeglasses,
coats, shoes, birthday gifts - you name it - were thrown from the car and or destroyed. If you have ever traveled with kids, you can imagine what was packed. Even the diapers were unusable due to glass
and liquids being spilled. Being a Pastor, Tom's health insurance
is a "self-pay" health insurance. They will need to pay for many little things up front, along with the car rental
fees. They are renting a Suburban - no one can blame them for that. The first ride in a car, was frightening, and it still is. I am concerned for them and the rising out of pocket expenses that they haven't yet considered. It may be a long time before they even begin to hear about a settlement. They will be speaking with a lawyer this week to put a game plan together, but that doesn't pay the bills. If you know the Bartlett's, you know how generous and loving they are. I think in February they had counted over 70 individuals had slept at their home since October last year, I have no idea how many since, but many more. Their door is always open and they would give what they have to anyone. Now is the time to give back while they are in need. No amount is too small. Just like many hands make light work, many small donations will add up. Please feel free to share this with your friends and let's bless Tom, Carla, Brooke, Tyler, Paige and Kai. They are special to God and special to me, I know they are special to many, many more. I was at the hospital with Tom until Saturday this week and heard and saw many text messages and emails and phone calls. Help spread the word and bless them! Thank you!
