We all have a story... where we're from, where we've lived, and what we've been through. Our stories shape ultimately who we become -- who we are.
Meet Darrell Irby. To just any person, he's a just another face with just another story. But to those who know Darrell, he's so much more! You may recognize Darrell as the property assistant at Due West United Methodist Church . But ask any of the kids at the church or preschool about Darrell and you'll hear the excitement in their voice as they describe him as the fun and exciting "Mr. Darrell!" It doesn't take long for any person to discover that Darrell Irby is the kindest, compassionate, most humble and most generous person you'll have the pleasure of meeting. And his character -- who he is -- has been shaped by his story. It's a story of perseverance, determination, and redemption. Admittedly, words fail to adequately describe the life experiences of Darrell. I certainly cannot do Darrell's story justice. Jesus tells a story about a son whose life goes sideways and he ends up at a place in life where he was desperate and homeless. You and I know this story as "The Story of the Prodigal Son." Let's just say that there are parallels between the story of the prodigal son and of that of Darrell Irby. You see, what makes Darrell the compassionate, humble, kind, and generous person he is today is his story… where he’s from, his life experiences, the things he’s been through.
Darrell has made an impression on the lives of so many people – men, women, children – and has been the inspiration to many "prodigal sons" along the way. The staff at Due West is constantly searching for a way to honor Darrell – who he is and the impact he’s made on so many!
We discovered a short time ago that Darrell has never been to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It’s a shame that for someone who brings so much joy into our lives that he’s never been to the place that brings joy to so many! We think it's time to send Darrell to the place where "dreams come true!" Let’s send Darrell to Disney World!
Here’s the skinny: We want to send Darrell to Disney from October 10, 2016 through October 14, 2016! The cost for his room & board and passes to the parks is $1,500! (Tickets for park passes - $340, room - $645, meals & “fun money” - $500.) Darrell wouldn’t be going alone – there is a person on staff who would be accompanying Darrell on his FIRST trip to Disney! (That person’s trip is already paid for, we’re only asking for help to send Darrell!)
IMPORTANT: We want to SURPRISE Darrell with this trip! PLEASE help us keep this a SECRET! Once Darrell’s trip is fully funded, we’ll present him with the surprise & the donors – YOU – who made it possible!
The famous philosopher and writer, Voltaire, wrote: “Appreciation is a wonderful thing; it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” You have an opportunity to recognize the excellence of Darrell Irby and to honor him with your donation to send him to Disney and make his dreams come true!
