Squatters DESTROYED our home!

We were supposed to move into our house on August 3rd only to find out SQUATTERS had broke in, changed the locks and are illegally living there! We called the police to have the trespassers removed and arrested, only to be told that they can't do anything without a court order. The squatters claim to have a verbal agreement, which is a lie, so now we have to be homeless and wait for this to play out in the courts. Hotels, Extended Stays, Air B&B's are expensive, especially this time of year. It's costing us THOUSANDS and the squatters are protected!

Anything would be appreciated, it's truly embarrassing to even have to go this route. Squatters should not have ANY rights and the laws need to be changed so that's it's CRIMINAL and not a civil matter.

You can't even turn off the power or water because that's against the law in NC so they can stay FREE while we are homeless and have to pay to stay somewhere.
