AYUDA A VALENTINA CON SU CIRUGÍA DE COLUMNA CERVICAL

Me llamo Iraida Valentina Rodríguez López. Soy psicóloga y madre de dos hijos. Mi hijo mayor tiene 22 años, se fue del país hace casi 8 años y no he podido verlo de nuevo. Mi hijo menor tiene 9 años y solo depende de mí. Vivo en Caracas, Venezuela. Durante varios años ejercí mi profesión trabajando con personas en situación de calle y con adicción a las drogas. También trabajé como profesora en la Facultad de Psicología de la Universidad Central de Venezuela. Actualmente ejerzo mi profesión de forma independiente.

Debido a la difícil situación económica, estoy recaudando fondos para una cirugía de columna cervical. Hace varios meses, comencé a sentir un dolor intenso en el cuello y también tensión y dolor constantes en los hombros. Las migrañas se volvieron frecuentes. Sin embargo, lo que más me llamó la atención fue que estaba perdiendo fuerza en las manos y la amplitud de movimiento del brazo izquierdo estaba disminuyendo, lo que hacía que cualquier intento de moverlo me resultara muy doloroso. Tuve una póliza de seguro durante casi dos décadas, pero hace unos cuatro años, debido a mi diagnóstico de lupus, la compañía se negó a renovar mi póliza, a pesar de que mi enfermedad lleva años en remisión (no tengo síntomas) y nunca he tenido complicaciones, por lo que actualmente no tengo seguro médico.

Debido a todas estas molestias, decidí consultar con un especialista. Tras estudios clínicos y de imagen (una resonancia magnética), mostraron la presencia de una hernia discal izquierda C5-C6; síndrome de compresión radicular C5-C6; e inestabilidad cervical C5-C6. En resumen, mi disco se rompió y se desplazó, comprimiendo el nervio y la médula espinal, y mi cuello está inestable.

Como la cirugía cervical no es algo que deba tomarse a la ligera, consulté con otros médicos. Coincidieron unánimemente en que, para evitar que la lesión empeorara y causara daños permanentes que afectaran mi movilidad, necesitaba operarme. El procedimiento quirúrgico tiene como objetivo reemplazar el disco dañado con un implante y brindar estabilidad a las vértebras afectadas, previniendo así mayores daños neurológicos y afectando aún más mi calidad de vida.

Debido a las malas condiciones de los hospitales públicos en Venezuela, someterse a una cirugía en uno de ellos es altamente riesgoso (no hay garantía de que el procedimiento se realice correctamente y mi vida correría peligro). Como actualmente no cuento con seguro médico, me resulta imposible pagar la cirugía. Por eso recurro a ustedes, a su buena voluntad y a su bondadoso corazón, para que me ayuden a financiar la cirugía que necesito. Mi futuro, mi bienestar y, por lo tanto, el de mi pequeño hijo, dependen de ello.

My name is Iraida Valentina Rodríguez López. I am a psychologist and mother of two children. My oldest is 22 years old, he left the country almost 8 years ago, and I haven't been able to see him again. My youngest is 9 years old and only relies on me. I live in Caracas, Venezuela. For several years, I practiced my profession working with homeless people and those with drug addiction. I also worked as a professor at the School of Psychology at the Central University of Venezuela. I am currently practicing my profession independently.

Due to the difficult economic situation, I am currently raising funds for cervical spine surgery. Several months ago, I began experiencing severe pain in my neck and also felt constant tension and pain in my shoulders. Migraines became frequent. However, what caught my attention most was that I was losing strength in my hands, and the range of motion in my left arm was decreasing, making any attempt to move it very painful. I had an insurance policy for almost two decades, but about four years ago, due to my lupus diagnosis, the company refused to reinsure me, even though my disease has been in remission for years (I don't have any symptoms) and I've never had any complications, so I currently don't have a health insurance policy.

Due to all these discomforts, I decided to see a specialist. After clinical and imaging studies (an MRI), they showed the presence of a left C5-C6 herniated disc; C5-C6 root compression syndrome; and C5-C6 cervical instability. Simply put, my disc ruptured and displaced, compressing the nerve and spinal cord, and my neck is unstable.

Since cervical surgery is not something to be taken lightly, I consulted with other doctors. They unanimously agreed that to prevent the injury from worsening and causing permanent damage that would permanently affect my mobility, I need to undergo surgery. The surgical procedure aims to replace the damaged disc with an implant and provide stability to the affected vertebrae, thus preventing further neurological damage and further affecting my quality of life.

Due to the poor conditions of public hospitals in Venezuela, undergoing surgery in one of them is highly risky (there is no guarantee that the procedure will be performed correctly, and my life would be in danger). Since I currently do not have health insurance, it is impossible for me to pay surgery. That is why I am turning to you, to your goodwill, to your kind heart, to help me finance the surgical procedure I need. My future, my well-being, and therefore that of my young son, depend on it.
