Dear Friends of Doug,
On October 7, 2016, Doug was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL), a blood cancer and one of the rarer types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Chemotherapy has been successful at reducing much of Doug's aggressive MCL activity and all but a few chemo-resistant tumors. As of March 27, 2017, a combination drug trial will begin with the goal of bringing Doug to a state of remission, which would make him eligible for the next stage of treatment: an allogeneic stem cell transplant.
Doug pushed through the symptoms of MCL and the side effects of medical treatment to continue working until cognitive issues and physical concerns made it no longer an option to hold down a job. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has approved Early Retirement, but the SSA benefit will net less than half of Doug's current monthly living and medical expenses, and when the stem cell transplant finally occurs, medical expenses are expected to skyrocket.
So, Doug now finds himself in the unexpected and undesirable position of needing help. This GoFundMe account will allow friends to give whatever they want, whatever they are able to, and any contribution is welcome.
