Hope for Eli
Hi everyone - thank you for joining this community in support of Eli and his family. For those of you who are new to Eli’s story, after a few weeks of concerning symptoms, he was diagnosed in August of 2021 with an inoperable brain tumor. Since then, the Paine family (Rachel, Chris, June, & Lucy + amazing grandparents & family!) has been doing everything possible for this funny, clever, sweet 6-year old boy.
Some of you may have contributed to a Go Fund Me at the very beginning of this journey that Eli’s tribe started to help fund the initial first months of radiation and medical expenses. Your generous donations enabled Rachel to stay home and care full time for Eli, helped the family travel to Houston to be part of a conference with the latest access to research on pediatric brain cancer, cover out-of-pocket expenses for medical care, and enabled them to make some precious family memories.
Now, 8 months past diagnosis, Eli is has just begun another round of radiation. Rachel is still staying home, and Chris is no longer paid for the FMLA days he needs to take off for Eli’s care. Rachel estimates that they spend about $400-500 monthly on just the supplements that Eli takes to mitigate the side effects of his chemo protocol and radiation treatment. Now that they are traveling to Miami for radiation, there are also gas costs, hotel expenses, and lots of other costs. In addition to their 13K out of pocket insurance expenses, they are pursuing other medical options not approved by insurance to help Eli.
Eli’s tribe has decided to up the goal of his Go Fund Me to help with expenses for this next phase of Eli’s treatment. We all want to be able to do something - for now, this is what they really need. Let’s help relieve a little bit of the pressure and stress of the financial side of their journey so Chris and Rachel can focus on Eli’s healing journey and their family.
