A quiet Wednesday afternoon turned into tragedy for one of own and his wife. On Wednesday August 24, 2016 a tornado cut a path through Woodburn, IN. The National Weather Service has issued a preliminary tornado assessment. They estimate that the tornado that hit Woodburn, IN had winds of 135 mph to 160 mph making it a F-3 on the Fujita scale. Thankfully, Paul Rekeweg, a 1968 Concordia Lutheran High School graduate and his wife Nettie, who attended Concordia for a year, were having dinner in town and were not home. This soft spoken Lutheran couple returned to find their farm, Paul’s childhood home, located at 18613 Doehrman Road Woodburn, IN 46797 heavily damaged. Multiple outbuildings including a barn were leveled, hundred year old trees were decimated and large farm equipment and personal vehicles now lay tangled in the debris. To quote a neighbor “they would give you the shirt off their back without thinking about it, even now with their lives literally torn apart to help everyone else”, which I believe embodies the meaning of Cadet. They have no power, no water or electric. They have been working tirelessly to salvage very few physical belongings that are being pulled from the rubble. They need our prayers and manpower to uncover what earthly belongings they can salvage, and to remove the wreckage before they can rebuild. Please consider helping one of our own. By Miranda Diller
