Support Cody's Road to Recovery

On March 23rd my son Cody was involved in a horrific accident in Gulf Breeze. As a result of this accident, he sustained life threatening injuries. His injuries included; his leg being severed on scene, an open book pelvic fracture, radial fracture of the forearm, displaced impacted frame of the hand, two broken ribs, fracture of the femur on the severed leg side and multiple lacerations to the back of his head. Had it not been for a guardian angel, that stopped to render aid, Cody would not be alive today. We are just so thankful, to this man, for his fast thinking and for the life-saving tourniquet he placed on Cody’s leg.
Cody was transported by Lifeguard E.M.S., accompanied by Midway Fire Paramedics to Sacred Heart Trauma Center in Pensacola. He was immediately rushed into the operating room where he underwent a 4 1/2 hour lifesaving surgery. After his first surgery he was placed in the ICU, on a ventilator, for 4 days. Since being admitted he has had numerous surgeries on his severed leg, which included placing an external fixator on his femur to hold together the pieces of bones, that were completely broken in half, until they could decide where his final amputation revision would be. He has had surgery on his pelvis to repair the open book pelvic fracture. The surgeon had to place several plates and screws to put it back together. Additionally, a rod had to be placed in his femur as a result of his injuries. His forearm was also fractured and required surgery where they tried to repair the arm with more plates and screws. The doctors also found a displaced fracture in his hand, so back to the OR he went where they repaired that hand with more screws.
So far, Cody has undergone six major surgeries, and may need more. He is going to need extensive in-patient and out-patient rehabilitation for months to come. Cody is a survivor and will make it. Our family has gathered around him for the loving support he will need to heal and we will continue to remain by his side as during his long road to recovery.
We are humbly seeking any assistance one is willing to provide. The donations will help provide financial stress relief for Cody and his family so we can focus on Cody’s recovery now and be with him when it is most crucial in the months ahead. We are not sure how much Cody’s health insurance covers for all of the procedures he has undergone so far, not to mention the inpatient rehab he will go to and the cost of a prosthetic leg.
All funds will go to pay the medical bills not covered by insurance and any shortfall in living expenses with this extended time off work to help Cody recover. Also, any extra funds raised above what the insurance doesn’t cover will provide Cody with things like durable medical equipment, accessible transportation, and continuous intensive physical therapy.
Any amount will help and encouraging positive messages are greatly appreciated during this extremely difficult time. I will post updates of Cody’s progress on this page.
