My Fiancé and I live in an apartment, and our downstairs neighbor is an extremely sweet, disabled elderly man named Stephen. Recently he’s been having some health complications. Two weeks ago, while out of town, we received a phone call from Stephen. He was okay, but said that he had fallen in his apartment and couldn’t get up on his own. We called the non-emergency number for him, hoping that someone would be there quickly to help him. A couple of days later, we received a phone call from the hospital, informing us that we were listed as Stephen’s emergency contact, and that he had flatlined during an attempted surgery. Thanks be to God, he pulled through and is currently awaiting another surgery attempt. My fiancé and I didn’t realize that Stephen has no family and no one else to contact for help. We’re making an effort to visit him and let him know that we’re here for him. I haven’t told Stephen, but I started this gofundme because I can’t begin to imagine the hospital bills that he will have. I know that he works part time at a restaurant as a cook, but is unable to do much else because he isn’t very mobile. I know Stephen is a stranger to anyone reading this, but if you have it in your heart to help us raise some money for this man, I know it will mean the absolute world to him.
