Welcome to our fundraising campaign! We are 4th and 5th grade teachers at a Title 1 elementary school in Glendale, AZ.
As public school teachers, we are subjected year after year of more and more budget cuts. Although salary increases are being considered across the state of Arizona, our school budget saw an overall DECREASE of over $40,000!!
We teachers are doing everything we can and are even purchasing supplies and resources using our own money, but this is something we just can't do without your help!
Once again, we are being forced to find our own funding to support literacy in our classrooms. One of the most effective tools we have used for more than a decade is a program called Accelerated Reader. With this program our Title 1 students have achieved such a terrific increase in reading comprehension, that our school has earned an A from the state of Arizona for student achievement on the AzMERIT test.
We started our own fundraising early this year, and so far have raised almost $2,000 through movie ticket sales, candy sales, multiple raffles, as well as generous donations from our Park Meadow's parent base. With your help, we hope to be able to raise the final $1,300 we need to create successful readers next year.
"When I was in 3rd grade, I did not like to read. That year, I was introduced to A.R. That same year, I advanced to gifted for reading. I've been using A.R. ever since. Now I'm reading at a 7th grade reading level in the 5th grade!" -Avery
"A.R. helped me flourish in vocabulary, have a better understanding of problems, and to READ MORE. I used to just read picture books, but then when I did A.R. I started reading 400 page books! No jokes and no exaggeration! Please help us to have A.R. next year!" -Ariana
"A.R. turned me into a reader! I read 5,906 pages this year! I hated reading at first, but now I am a reading machine!" - Billy
