Hello everyone! As many of you know, my name is Nathalie. I am a huge lover of animals and growing up it was always a dream of mine to own a hedgehog! Well, dreams do come true and in June of 2014 I purchased (from a breeder) the love of my life, Quvenzhane Kelso-Johnson aka "Q." She is the sweetest, most loving companion I could ever ask for. We've had a ton of adventures and she brings a smile to my face, and anyone's face she comes across. She truly is a little angel.
Last week, I noticed blood in Q's urine. I rushed her to an after hours vet and after several tests, they rushed her into surgery as she had a blood clot and a swollen uterus! The surgery went well and they removed the blood clot and her uterus successfully! Poor baby girl now has stitches and is recovering at home.
While she was sedated for surgery, they noticed her gums were slightly swollen. They determined she has "squamous cell carcinoma" which is an oral cancer. This is the deadliest form of cancer in hedgehogs, and there is no known cause and no definite cure.
As of now, she is in no pain from the cancer, but we will be giving her pain medication and anti-inflammatory medication for the rest of her life, however long or short it may be. Her oncologists are willing to try a new form of chemotherapy on her, as a preventative measure to assure the cancer does not get worse. Having already spent thousands of dollars on her surgery and medication, I simply can't afford this option unless by some miracle I raise enough money.
Basically, I am asking for any donation for Quvenzhane's medical bills so we can assure she doesn't get worse and that she lives out the rest of her life pain free!
Any amount big or small will help!!!
