Hundreds of former hockey players and other athletes are struggling with mental illness and brain disorders after the game. There is currently a huge shortage of resources. They need our help!
Barry Beck, Clint Malarchuk, Tom Gorence, and other former hockey players, friends, and family are volunteering their time to start a Public Charity for "The Ranch ~ Teammates for Life". This facility will provide vital resources for players and others who are dealing with mental illness and brain disease. Nobody will be turned away.
The Ranch will offer mental health counseling, short-term stay, animal therapy, family programs, educational speakers, public awareness, and intervention teams for outreach. Promising treatment options will be explored. Funds will also be used to support mental health causes already in existence, including aggressive research on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a neurodegenerative disease of the brain.
The money from GoFundMe will be used to establish the foundation. Funds will go into my bank account and every penny will go to The Sterling Foundation Management Company and to help with the fundraising events. This company charges $17,000 to create and manage the public charity. We now have enough to begin the process. I mailed them their first check!
My brother, Mark, is on board with and is excited to do this for others. He will hopefully be healthy and free to help run it someday. We honor all those who have experienced the heartbreak and chaos associated with mental illness...and for all the people fighting for them. Please keep Mark, Jim Miller, and all the others in your prayers...
