"Sympathy is no substitute for action." — David Livingstone
Hi Friends! I am excited about the opportunity and privilege of partnering with God this summer in Brazil and Peru. Some of you might know I'm graduating June 15th with a Masters of Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary - I can't believe it! I started that journey to learn and understand how I can further live out God's calling and vision for me into full-time ministry for the glory of His Name. There are so many beautiful things God has taught and solidified for me in Seminary, and I am ready to have my vision expanded by what He has waiting for me in South America. I am excited to learn, grow, and discover God further through the lens of the fantastic South American people! Everything you give will go directly into my account and go towards my flight, food, hotel, and transport. My goal is to raise $3000 in 10 days because as many of you know - the longer I wait to book my flight - the more expensive it will get. Anything I receive over $3000 will be given to the people I am serving. Myself and the people I am traveling with as well as serving most definitely need your prayers - so please pray for all of us!
God has gifted me with many incredible friends, and I am so grateful for my spiritual sister Alicia Webber who will be serving God and people with me this summer. One of the most amazing women of God I know is Sara Gouvea - she was one of my first roommates at Hillsong International Leadership College in Sydney, Australia and God used her to ignite and deepen my love for the Brazilian people. Ever since she moved back to Brazil many years ago, I have dreamed of going there, so I am excited to live out this God dream. Another dream I've had for a long time is that my church - NewportChurch - would go on a missions trip together. I am grateful to be a part of a church that is very missional locally and also wants to make a difference globally. When I found out that our first missions trip this summer was to Peru, I jumped out of my skin with excitement at the possibility of going and have sensed God's continual confirmation to go to Peru as well. I am grateful to be a part of witnessing this massive milestone for us as a church and see how God will transform us while we are there and deepen our desire for transformation back in our home cities.
BRAZIL DEETS:
Alicia and I will be in Brazil July 7th-July 21st. We will be coming alongside non-profit/missions organizations and churches who are already being the love of God, and we are excited to learn from them and serve them.
When you give towards what God is doing there, you are empowering me to be another extension of His love. These are the organizations you will be partnering with in your giving and the people we will be serving in Brazil:
1. Prohumanos - https://www.facebook.com/prohumanos/
The Prohumanos Goiânia began in 2015 to serve the community. They go to children's hospitals, orphanages and the mountain community of Kalunga quilombo, Vão De Almas(the name of the place) to bring joy and assistance to their needs. This community is difficult to get to because it requires going up into the mountains. There was no electricity there until recently, which means they have minimal access to the outside world, but this doesn't limit their wisdom. They are simple people who dominate nature with their knowledge, such as having a natural remedy to cure snakebites. They carry with them an inheritance of a past where they suffered, but they now live with a posture of being victorious warriors and overcomers. With the partnership of the Clube de Desbravadores (another organization), we will bring groceries to supply their needs, donations of clothes and toys, games as well as medical and dental support. We will dress up like clowns because clowns break barriers, unite indifference, and create connections between diverse cultures and peoples. The clown is a universal being. To be a clown is to love the neighbor independent of the differences and cultural diversity, and to see the human being as a whole.
2. Decisao Jovem - http://www.decisaojovem.com.br/home
This is a missions organization that does local and global work. They are all about worshipping the Lord, regardless of the circumstances! They believe that the true Church is one that loves, even when love is not reciprocated. Their goal is to follow the example of Jesus, who loved us without asking or expecting anything in return. They believe that whoever serves Jesus has no free will and that we are slaves of Christ. When we know the truth of who we are, we are freed from ourselves because Jesus came to set us free.
There are two campuses of the same church (Igreja do Clamor - Sara's home church) that we will be serving:
1. Igreja do Clamor https://www.facebook.com/igrejadoclamoranapolis/
Their main campus is in Anapolis which is close to Goiania. They currently do not have the finances to complete the kid's area in their church. We will be serving and encouraging the leaders when we are there and help them in any way we can with the current issues they are facing.
2. Igreja do Clamor - https://www.facebook.com/Igreja-do-Clamor-Goi%C3%A2nia-1069064543196933/
Sara's home church is located in Goiânia, which is a vulnerable and poor neighborhood. Most of the people that attend her church need assistance. They have various ministries to help people with food as well as ways to bless them spiritually and emotionally through a relationship with God and one another.
PERU DEETS:
Alicia and I will then fly from Brazil to Lima, Peru on July 21st and flying back to Los Angeles July 29th. We will be joining my home church - NewportChurch missions team. We will be serving alongside a church in Lima called Camino de Vida. We believe that we are blessed to be a blessing and that through our service, we will be an answer to prayer and a light to lives that have seen the darkest of days.

2. Camino de Vida - http://www.caminodevida.com/
The Church was founded by San Diego missionaries, Pastors Robert & Karyn Barriger. Camino de Vida celebrated their 30th anniversary this year and has 6 campuses across the city of Lima, Peru.
Our team will build a home for a family, assemble and distribute wheelchairs, host a community kids event, and distribute food at a hospital.
