This is for "Mr. Tom". Mr. Tom is 85 years of age. He worked in the office building where I rent space for the owners cleaning the office which consist of six floors until last Wednesday. He cleaned this building for over FIFTY years for the original owner before the original owner became sick. Mr. Tom continued cleaning the office after the original owner's family took over. A total of FIFTY TWO YEARS cleaning this office. He is faithful and loyal. He worked on average five days a week, cleaning the offices and bathrooms on each floor. FIFTY TWO years of service. He knew almost every person that came and went from the building. FIFTY TWO years of coming in, for little of nothing even up and until the end, and doing his job, day in and day out. "Mr. Tom" is the nicest and most faithful, loyal person. He is trustworthy. He is dependable. He did his job and he did it well, for 52 years and he loved his job, his ONLY job.
Mr. Tom worked faithfully. His wife languished with cancer and he still came to work. He took only three days off when his wife passed. Tenants were often there late to see Mr. Tom at work. He would offer to walk tenants to their car at night to protect them. He hobbled. He drug bags of trash. He prayed with tenants when needed. He remembered the tenants' names and their families' names. When it was time to clean out shelves, he would take the items to his church and was ever so grateful to have whatever was given to the church. Mr. Tom gave his life faithfully, as we are told to do in the Bible. And he ended his career of over FIVE decades hobbling out trash for about $225 a week. He said this job gave him a purpose and he wanted to continue doing it.
Last week on Thursday, Mr. Tom was called to come in and told he was not longer needed and his last day was the day before, Wednesday. No notice. No reason. No justification. Nothing. Just a......we don't need you. An elderly man, who dedicated his life over 52 years and doing his job, and during a pandemic was simply advised we don't need you anymore. The problem is, someone was hired to replace the 85 year old man that had poured his life and soul into this job. Mr. Tom was needed, just not by them any longer.
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. It is not that hard. It's really not.
We need more people like Mr. Tom. We need more people to take care of others, and do it faithfully with no complaining, as Mr. Tom did for 52 years. Now is our time to take care of Mr. Tom if we can.
If you want to contribute to Mr. Tom, any amount is appreciated. All funds will be provided directly to Mr. Tom to help with his living expenses and necessities. If you feel it on your heart to give him an opportunity for work, I am happy to pass your contact information along to Mr. Tom.
