On Sunday, December 22, WLWT reported that a fire in Colerain Township caused over 1.5 million dollars in damage at Silo, XL Storage. The fire ravaged the complex that housed all of the equipment for 'Ultra Steam', Doug Perry's carpet cleaning business. Three fully operable detailed cleaning vans, all of Doug's office including financials, and materials totaling well over $50,000. Everything was destroyed, along with their livelihood. To maintain a barebones approach to provide the best funding for his employees, Doug only had liability insurance for his equipment and materials. Call it foolish? I call it incredibly generous.

I have never met someone more generous, hard-working, and dedicated in my life as Doug Perry. Doug has worked and owned a carpet cleaning business for over 30 years, Ultra Steam Carpet Cleaning. And to always ensure the best for his employees, He made sure that they always had what they needed, even to the point of giving up his own lunch, working with a broken arm for an employee to have the day off, or financially supporting random ventures of his employees to help them achieve their dreams. Doug and Carol also spend their time serving in the church and taking food and hot drinks to the homeless without fail every week on Thursdays in downtown Cincinnati.
I personally experienced his generosity as an employee for him for over 2 years, as my wife and I were given an extra 20, or 50 dollars, or even 100 dollars here and there, just because. I always told everyone that Doug didn't know how to round up to the nearest dollar, because he would turn a $259 check into a $300 check. Nearest $100! His wife, Carol, would often express her gratitude for me and always show her thankfulness and generosity through Doug.
To give away continually to the point of knowing that you don't have a way to automatically get back what you've lost incase of an emergency so you can provide a better paycheck for your employees...is the highest level of sacrifice and selflessness. This embodies Doug Perry. It reminds me of the movie, "It's a wonderful life". Doug has portrayed time and time again the best attitude and care towards his staff by supporting their families, giving when it wasn't needed, and sacrificing his time and energy for the sake of others over himself. It's time for the friends and family and everyone who has ever been generously impacted through Doug and his business to give back to them abundantly to ensure that their work and community continue to experience "The Perrys" for years to come.
