We at RIBHO are committed to supporting food insecure households with children under the age of five and the elderly with a monthly food basket.

Some individuals in rural Ugandan communities do face seasonal hunger, particularly, the little children and fragile elderly. Hunger is an unpleasant state, but continual hunger does diminish the body’s ability to support and sustain good health. From our monthly household nutritional assessments, we can tell you lots of stories about nutritional related diseases and conditions in the very young and older. Our best stories though are those of hearty meals bringing twinkles back into smiles, and reversing malnutrition.

This August, we are getting ready to meet the needs of the increasing number of hurting infants, children, and older adults who look to us and call on us for neighborly help – a shared kilogram of red beans, two spoons of sugar for that morning tea – and the day starts with energy and hope that remains through the day.

It is harvest season in Uganda. We at RIBHO want to take advantage of this time of year when grain prices are at their lowest – half of what they will be in December.

Our Food Distribution team is busy in the markets – negotiating process, stocking supplies, prepping food baskets, and recruiting and training distribution volunteers. We want to be ready to respond when food supplies dwindle, prices go up, and the most vulnerable are not able to afford food.

Will you kindly help support our team get ready to feed the hungry children and elderly?

Our goal is to raise $1800 to purchase 4000 kilograms of grain for this food drive, and we need your help in reaching that amount.

Depending on the grain, a kilogram of (red beans, rice, soya, millet, p.nuts), costs 30 to 55 cents. As an example, $6 buys 20 kilograms of red beans, $14 buys 50 kilograms, $28 buys 100 kilograms, and $200 buys 500 kilograms of red beans.) But this has to be done in the right season.

Your gift today is a DOUBLE IMPACT gift simply because its harvest season.

This is doable. Together we can achieve this. Let’s do it!

Thank you in advance for any contribution you can make. You will be helping to save the vulnerable children and the elderly from hunger, while improving their health and well-being.

With sincere gratitude,

Pamela Mukaire,
Executive Director
