Don't Undermine Me: Site-Specific Dance Experience
Donation protected
I am seeking support for my latest dance piece, "Don't Undermine Me." Premiering this November 13th and 15th at Your Move Dance Festival in the historic and iconic Loew's Theater in Jersey City, New Jersey. I am working with an incredible cast of six fearlessly bold female performers.
Your support would go directly towards 34 hours of rehearsal space and equitable payment for each dancer's time, labor, and artistry. With your support the final rehearsals before the premiere will be made possible. Beyond the show in November, I plan to expand this work in 2020 to an evening-length performance adding four more dancers, live electric violinists, and a drummer.
"Don't Undermine Me" is a site-specific dance experience built on the prevalence of female endurance and strength. The performers rip and weave through the lobby in and out of dangerous and tender vignettes. Unapologetically claiming the space, they interact with each other on their own terms: violently, tenderly, joyfully, virtuosically. An exertion of a low-tolerance for the daily belittlement and condescension women face, this piece rotates on a spectrum of what women can and do experience to deal, fight, or laugh at our patriarchal realities.
At the beginning of October, I was fortunate enough to receive 16 hours of free rehearsal space as a GallimXCreateART artist in Residence. During this residency, my collaborators and I created the bulk of "Don't Undermine Me." As the November show approaches, we still need funds and rehearsal space as our resources are running out.
Any donations to this project are wildly appreciated. Your gracious contributions will allow us to finish this piece with the time, space, and financial support it desperately needs. You will allow us to keep reaching audiences, to serve our communities, to lift women higher, and most importantly, you will prevent dancers from accepting little to no pay for our unconditional dedication to our art form.
Thank you immensely.
