Suprise-UPDATE: Right now, almost 9 months after the first recordings of the album, the first song is mixed and ready for its first release! While we are super busy working on producing and releasing the other “patakins” of this album, I will soon be able to present you the first song “A Ellegua”. I am Leonardo Reyna, pianist, composer and initiator of Classic Vibrations, living in Berlin. Over the past decade I have been intensively investigating which have been the musical roots of several artistic expressions, such as the Afro-Cuban music and European classical music. The dialogue among these expressions and the synthesis of elements in the past decade have been synonymous to the subsequent evolution and formation of new cultures and musics around the world. The discovery of these elements and influences flow in my compositions and arrangements, which form the core of Classic Vibrations.

I am asking for financial support to fund Classic Vibrations, in order to produce and release the first Album as a start of the journey of Classic Vibrations, which will continue and grow bigger over the next couple of years and about which I am really excited and grateful.

My vision for this project is interdisciplinary, yet always starting with the creation of music as a base. The music that will be recorded for the album, has been written and continuously intensified over the years 2017-2019 and is already in transition for combinations with audio-visual elements, dancing choreographies and electronic music cooperations. Like this, Classic Vibrations will be able to grow and expand as a full-experience project, connecting different disciplines of art and including input from inspiring musicians and artists. 

Who is Leonardo Reyna?

I am a professional pianist and composer, born in the beautiful city of Havana in Cuba. It is there where I started my musical studies receiving lessons from my mother, Pianist Alejandrina Reyna. Ever since, the piano has been my principal instrument and best mean of expression. 

Now, I have been based in Berlin over the past ten years, during which I also graduated from the prestigious Hanns Eisler Music School. 

In the years up to that, I lived in various countries such as Cuba, Chile and Spain, where I was awarded in more than fifteen Festival and Competitions. 

My passion for music is my life, given by my Caribbean heritage and succeeded by a training based on the technic and stylistic fundaments of the classic European school of music. 

I have been performing around the world since 1997, coached and supported by musicians such as Roberto Bravo and his Foundation, Teresita Junco and Rosario Franco in Cuba, Dimitri Bashkirov, in Madrid and Gabriele Kupfernagel in Germany. Wolfram Rieger and Thomas Quastoff were my Lied accompaniment coaches and have shown me the rich world of songs and text written for Voice and Piano.

I am so happy to have been able to perform and be in touch with all kinds of audiences, bringing my music to more than just the conventional and still important concert halls in Latin-America and Europe. It is this connection outside the conventional classical music spaces I want to initiate with Classic Vibrations. 

What is Classic Vibrations?

Classic Vibrations is a project that conceives the interaction in different artistic levels. It is the recreation of sounds, movements, atmospheres and stories arising from different expressions of the human being and presents a diverse language and a new way of interaction and communication through the music and other disciplines of art. It also manifests the approach between different cultures in different times of our history, which brings today as well as in the past, new inspirations to this project. 

Classic and contemporary European music come into dialogue with vibrations and rhythms of the cuban and afro-descendent expressions presenting the synthesis of influences in Classic Vibrations. The new interaction presented in this project, intends to sow a new seed of earlier values in our contemporary times. Moreover, it has become a new mean of expression in my musicianship. 

Classic Vibrations project is the place where we recreate, develop and bring together all the different elements of cultures, music and artistic ideas that are part of our best sources of inspiration in life. With the compositions and arrangements I follow my own spiritual need to communicate, express and come into dialogue with the divine forces of our planet and the interaction among elements of nature. 

Since almost a decade living far from my homeland Cuba, a particular interest in my culture and its roots has been growing. Living in Berlin, the city where I completed my Master degrees as a classical pianist, was and still is the place where all these influences have found space to exist and be representative of where I come from, and where I go. My current desire is to bring into life an album with my most recent compositions which are reflection of the Classic Vibrations idea. 

Classic Vibrations Album very importantly is the collaboration with a variety of artists and musicians coming from different places who also feel the need to explore and express beyond conventional forms and therefor create bridges. 

Talented musicians like the Dutch violinist Judith de Haas, Cuban singer and percussionist Arturo Martinez, drummer Wiljoph Mounkassa Williams and pianist and singer Yahima Cordova are examples of these collaborations.

Why should I support this?

By supporting the project of Classic Vibrations, you will contribute to the realization of its mission and the production of all the material previously exposed. The musical result serves as an experience for everyone, and every single person might be able to find a piece of his story there. It is only exciting to support such a project, and I will always have the people supporting this close to me, being the first ones to know which experience is next. 

Where will the money be invested?

For these first steps of the Classic Vibrations album, in short, your funding supports: 

- Studio Rent

- Sound Engineering fees

- Production costs for the Album, such as technicians, electronic tools, etc.

- Rent and tuning of a grand piano

- Compensation for cooperating musicians & artists

- Travel costs of some cooperating musicians from abroad

- Compensation for Photographer and Video-crew

- Graphic Design Album

- Compensation for legal advisor on producing an album with a new Label. 

- And more…

I would like to put my first financial goal at raising enough resources to pay the musicians and collaborating technicians and other professionals. This is important to me as over the past couple of years these people have been very loyal to me and my work. Artistic work is not just thankful work happy with any exposure, it deserves to be rewarded in financial compensations, just as any other job. This is one value I ultimately stand for. 

Other costs are travel costs for the collection of sounds and musicians, as well as documentation fees for the communications-expert, videographer and photographer who have been helping me to shape this crowdfunding project and the making-of video. Of course, I would also like to get my own fee as a musician, composer and project leader. However, initially and more importantly my heart goes to having the project realised, and I feel personally responsible for all aspects of it.
