Pickleball to the rescue!

Donation protected
Two weeks ago, my girlfriend Remi Smith and I launched a pickleball app called PickleConnect. We have had the idea all along that we want to help support and share the love of pickleball through helping and giving back.

Well, last week we became aware of a gentleman named Rigardo (Rick) Prewit through a post on Facebook. He is a 61 year old African American male who  just had a pacemaker installed and needs another one soon. Although he has had a bad ticker since the age of 18, that is not slowing Rick down from his crusade to help bring pickleball, jobs and a sense of community to the inner-city residents of Chicago.

Rick founded Universal Picklers because he saw the need to help bring the community together the only way he knew how... Pickleball! Rick teaches teens and young adults how to play pickleball, how to teach pickleball and how to learn the entrepreneurial life skills all through the wonderful sport of pickleball! He currently manages a base of 50 kids and wants to expand his base but this has proven to be difficult. Rick has donated his time and his own money and because of that, their resources are very limited.

As you will see in the pictures, the Chicago Police Department has taken a personal involvement because of the success of Rick's mission of "Put Down the Weapons and Pick Up the Paddles!" They regularly play pickleball and help create positive interactions with the locals.

We at PickleConnect Pickleball App were so touched by Rick's story and pictures that we absolutely had to help him raise money for his cause.  We are asking for donations so he can buy equipment, have clinics and lessons and to provide jobs for the kids in his group. We have taken it upon ourselves to reach out to our pickleball community to help Rick get the money he needs to continue his pickleball mission!
