Quintin's Fight Against Burkitt's Leukemia
Donation protected
Quintin, one of the COOLEST kids on this earth, was not expecting to be spending his summer break in a hospital where he was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Burkitt’s Leukemia, an extremely rare and aggressive cancer that occurs when tumor cells develop in the bone marrow and bloodstream. He and his family never saw this coming... They had just returned from a dream vacation in Ireland and had no signs that their lives would be completely turned upside down by a headache, then lower back pain starting in May.
Quintin is 17 years old and should be starting his Senior year at Liberty High School on August 8th, but now will have to complete his Senior year online when he can. He has amazing friends who voted him Homecoming King his Junior year. He was anxious to enjoy the summer, working and hanging out with friends before the start of his Senior Year. Anyone who knows him immediately thinks of his sincere smile, quick wit, genuine kindness, entrepreneurial spirit, passion for shoes and amazing hair! Which he shaved with such grace (video link coming soon).
Quintin is a friend to everyone and is loved by all.
He has already started his long journey that will take at least 1 year with the majority of the time in the hospital or Cancer Clinic. He is getting chemo medications everyday through an IV, has had surgery for a port, has already had 2 bone marrow biopsies in each hip, and is also receiving chemo medications through spinal taps 3 times a week for at least the first 2 cycles of his treatment, and many oral medications. He has had, and will continue to have, countless CT scans and bone marrow biopsies to monitor his progress. If the Chemo isn't effective in the bones, he could need a bone marrow transplant.
This unexpected challenge will be a substantial financial burden to his Mom & sisters, and that is the last thing they need to worry about. His mom, Amy Miller-James, will be by his side every second throughout his yearlong treatments & procedures. Amy will not be able to work her full time job that she recently started and does not qualify for FMLA. Amy will be taking Leave of Absences from work when necessary to be by his side.
Many have asked how they can help, so this Go-Fund-Me Page has been set up to help with the myriad of costs the family will face over the next year.
Please consider supporting the family and keep Quintin & his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
