Quinn: The Mightiest of Bernese

Donation protected
Hi!

My name is Adam and I live in Raleigh, NC and I am here today on behalf of "The MIGHTY Quinn" and her incredible owner, Bell. Most likely you have landed here if you are a friend, family member, or just an animal lover in general. For that, I would like to just quickly start by saying thank you so much for showing love and support. It truly means so much. Now for the story!

For those of you who do not know Quinn, she is 2938 days old (8 years and some change) and is a consistently damp Bernese Mountain dog. She is potentially the most goofy-ist animal I have ever met and the definition of a gentle giant. She has a strong preference for cool weather and is the bestest of adventure buddies. In addition, Quinn is somewhat of a celebrity, heck some may even say a legend! I’ve heard stories of how she was far more popular in college than Bell and all the students knew her name but never knew Bell’s. Quinn was also always the first one invited to all the parties for her superb drinking skills. If you’d like, you can check her out on Instagram at, @themightyquinn_bmd.

I remember the first time I met Quinn I was going to pick up Bell, who I barely knew at this point, to go out of town for the weekend to a concert. On my way over, Bell warned me that she had this dog and asked if I liked dogs and of course I said yes! However, Bell failed to mention how large of a dog. Me knowing nothing, shows up to the house, knocks, and since no one answered the door, I just came on in. The second I turn the corner and yell “hello”, out of nowhere comes a 100lb fur monster going for a full body smackdown… I don’t dodge and down I go. With a mouth full of fur and slightly red face from being embarrassed, Bell pops out of her room and pulls Quinn off me so that I can help her put her bags in the car so that we can head out for the weekend. As we say bye to Quinn and Bell’s roommates, Quinn lunges for her leash, runs to the car, and hops on in. Now unfortunately, she could not go on this adventure, but I knew that this mighty mama was going to be headed out on many epics to come.

Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of traveling with Quinn to the New River Gorge, various state parks around NC, several trips to various lakes, the beach, and lots of pizza parties with our friends here in Raleigh. She always makes sure to let her presence known and loves introduce herself to take advantage of the opportunity for belly rubs. Now you may ask, why are we here today?

As of 60hrs ago Quinn was rushed to the emergency room. She was initially admitted for having a fever, not eating, and sunken eyes. It was assumed based on her age, symptoms, and breed that she had an infection in her uterus. After exploratory surgery that diagnosis was not confirmed, and with further testing it was discovered that she has pneumonia.

Hopes are high for Quinn but 24hrs following surgery we got the green light to come and pick up Quinn. We are given a list of medications, advised on best practices on how to care for her, and Bell is handed a hefty bill for the visit. At this point, everything seems to have calmed down and we can finally take Quinn home. Quinn does well overnight, but the next day Quinn refuses to eat, slowly loses the ability to walk, and is now vomiting blood. Back to the emergency room we go.

Currently as it stands, Quinn is admitted to the hospital with an unknown outcome. All we can do is believe in her and send her all the love that we can. We do not know what will happen to Quinn, but what we do know is that this has quickly escalated to becoming a very expensive experience for Bell and Quinn. As of now, expectations for Quinn’s cost with no additional treatment are over $4000 dollars. On behalf of both Bell and Quinn, I am reaching out to ask for help. Help for someone who I love and for a dog who radiates with so much love and happiness.

All proceeds of the fundraiser will go to helping Bell pay off Quinn’s surgery, medications, and stay in the hospital. Additionally, we would like to give a special shoutout to the amazing team at Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care as well as UrgentVet – Cary for all of their medical expertise.

Thank you once again everyone. As we know more regarding Quinn, I will do my best to share updates here!
