UPDATE #4 From Quinn
First the less fun stuff:
STILL awaiting health insurance coverage for PT but I have an advocate working to make it happen for me ASAP
Finally eligible for disability thru social security so that process has been started but is estimated to take weeks to finalize
Between rent, normal bills, medical bills, and general cost of living i am flat broke. We are all worker bees in my immediate family and had little to nothing in the way of savings pre-accident, and now we truly are working with nothing. That being said, the love and support I receive daily from my family AND friends has been vital to my recovery and i am eternally grateful.
Okay now the good stuff:
The difference in my mobility from when I first got home from the hospital is like night and day. I’m a pro with a walker now, and i can sit in my fancy wheelchair for hours and hours. I was also able to obtain a special chair that can lift me all the way to standing which is HUGE because it allows me somewhere other than my hospital bed to relax. Plus it’s very comfy. I have also started to put gentle pressure on my right foot. Even just laying it flat on the ground feels foreign, but it’s exciting to have more feeling in my leg. It now feels more possible than ever that I will be bearing weight on both legs again sometime in the near future. It did not feel possible back in December.
I have resumed practice with one of my bands, Queer Country. We’ve moved our headquarters temporarily to my music room. I am over the moon to be back in the saddle with my boys. We’re hoping to be performing again very soon!
I have had no alcohol and no cigarettes for about three months now (I am told the rock and roll lifestyle isn’t so accommodating to healing), and as of a week ago I am also off of painkillers after having been on opiates since my accident. I weaned myself off them and I’m proud!
Despite constant financial stress, I am feeling generally very positive and in awe of what my body can do. I am no longer afraid to look at my weird leg and thats huge! I have a really hard time asking for money, as everyone has already been extremely generous, but life and the powers that be have left me no choice. As always, thank you for your continued love and support.
UPDATE #3:
THE GOOD NEWS: Quinn is finally home from the hospital, her mother Anne is going to be her in-home health aide, we've secured Anne housing and have been able to help Quinn pay for things like gas money, phone bills, and the deposit on her mom's new place. Quinn has been very frugal with her spending, knowing how precious each dollar you donate is, how it represents your time, and your love- and I'm still managing these donation funds for her. Keeping money stuff straight when your head is awash in pain and pain meds is a nightmare, she's been relieved to not have to try and be an accountant on top of everything else. You all are an incredible community but it looks like our efforts to support Quinn have only just begun...
THE UGH NEWS: Quinn's doctors estimate conservatively that it will be at least SIX MONTHS before she is able to work on her feet again. She has a long road of healing and physical therapy ahead of her, knowing Quinn the hardest part of all of this besides the pain, is for this force of nature to learn to be still. She hasn't even gotten a look at the BIG MEDICAL BILL yet, but let's assume with helicopter ride, surgeries, and length of stay it's going to be a DOOZY. Taking all of this into consideration we have raised the fundraising goal to $20,000. There will be a fundraising concert at Golden West this Saturday December 16th, featuring one of Quinn's rad bands CAVEWOMAN- Quinn obviously won't be singing with them but we are working on live streaming it for her, and there will be a cash jar where you can tip in cash or hit up the QR code that will be posted all over the bar, it goes to this GOFUNDME. Being in this much pain for Quinn is exhausting and she is still unable to bear any weight on her knee- but she is able to practice bending it, which she says is "Pretty cool." She'll be using a walker or a wheelchair for the foreseeable future. If you can't pay her in money, you can definitely pay her in meals, hilarious memes, playlists and podcast recommendations. Your love, your messages, your hard-won ducats-- they're all deeply felt and appreciated by Quinn-- y'all know how humble she is, especially for an Aries ;-) ... the outpouring of love everyone has shown has buoyed her spirits and helped soothe her worried soul so far. Let's keep it up.
xoxo

Update #2 From Quinn: “For those interested: my amazing doctors and case workers here at Santa Rosa Memorial have been unable to find me the appropriate and reliable health care I would need to come back to Fort Bragg for the week between now and my next (hopefully final) surgery. So unless something turns up, this is where I will be until my actual discharge date, which will likely be Wednesday 11/29. Though I miss my home and my people, I have come around to this being the plan, for a few reasons. I am extremely vulnerable to infection and further injury right now so the less traveling the better, plus this gives Wesley and my dad Bob more time to get the house ready for my new standard of living. They are both already doing an incredible job making new accommodations for me but more preparation is never a bad thing.
I love and miss all you coasty folks ♥️ I am very blessed to know you. Thank you for making me feel so loved during this time. I assure you, the people taking care of me here are doing a top notch job and I’m being told consistently that i’m making huge progress every day! Pic of me and my sister Maddie who has spoiled me rotten ”
UPDATE #1: Thank you to everyone who has helped Quinn so far! Quinn completed her first surgery on Sunday 11/12 where surgeons inserted two plates and several screws into her right knee in an attempt to give her knee a stable form around which to heal. She has been recovering at St. Joseph Memorial with Wesley and her mama Anne + Family visiting daily. She is in a great deal of pain and has been kept heavily medicated so she can just rest and heal. She is deeply moved and heartened to know so many people care about her, and knowing she has a little bit of breathing room financially is helping her surrender to what's important: recovery. Doctors estimate Quinn will be at St. Joseph's until 11/20, then she will hopefully be able to come home for a week- Wesley and Quinn's father Bob are getting the house wheelchair ready and more accessible for her to come home. She is due back 11/27 for her second surgery. The road to recovery and physical rehabilitation is going to be a long one, a conservative estimate puts Quinn at a 4-6 month process of being on her feet again. As we do not know the extent of Quinn's medical bills and expenses yet, nor how long she's going to be out of commission, I have raised the goal to $10,000. All funds raised will be ear marked for expenses including home health care equipment, medical bills, transportation, and cost of living. Quinn has elected me to help manage these funds and expenses, we want to make sure that the hard earned money that so many of you have generously donated is being spent efficiently and effectively. We know that times are tight for many of us on the Coast- and that every dollar donated represents precious time and energy you all have spent to earn it- it will be carefully managed. I will update this fundraiser as news rolls in- for now from Quinn, Wesley, and myself THANK YOU. Your love and support is deeply felt. You are living proof of why the Mendocino Coast is one of the strongest and most caring communities on Earth.
Love and solidarity,
Esther Liner
Hi my name is Esther Liner and I am fundraising for Quinn Fields, who DESTROYED her right knee in a dancing mishap Saturday 11/11 at her friend Taryn's Birthday Party. According to Quinn "My leg made the most disgusting sound"-- indeed it turns out she has ten broken bones in her right knee. She was airlifted to St. Joseph Memorial in the early hours of Sunday Morning, 11/12, where she is currently undergoing exploratory surgery- the first of what Doctors think will be at least three surgeries. They are hoping to put two plates and several screws in, but are uncertain if they can do it at this time, or have to surgically release some of the swelling first. Quinn's loving, long time partner and fiancé Wesley is at St. Joseph awaiting news from the surgeons, and I will be updating this fundraiser as we get more information. In the short term it is clear that Quinn is going to need help with rent, bills and groceries. Quinn has been a long time barista, smoothie Queen, and Retail Associate--- all jobs that require her to be on her feet. It's clear that's not something she's going to be able to do for quite some time. If we are able to raise enough funding I think it would be wise to earmark some of it for a laptop and training in a career she can do remotely. Quinn is a vital part of our Mendocino Coast Music and Theater Scene and our local Community. Her bands Queer Country and Cavewoman have been breathing new life into our post-pandemic live music circuit, and she recently delighted us all during her turn as Beetlejuice in Gloriana's Haunted Broadway Showcase. She is loving, kind, hardworking, hilarious- and always the first to help her friends, family, and community when they are in need. It has been extremely heartening for me to see Quinn get her life and musical career on track after the devastating loss of her best friend Greg last year. I don't want to see this momentum cut short or her life get derailed, and I know you don't either. Let's rally around her and let her know that we've got her. Her job in the short term is to rest and recovery, in the mid term it's to rebuild her life and career adapted to this injury.
