Quinlyn's Wheelchair Van FundMe Req

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Kimberly Thareja,  I and my sister Beth Roybal  have created this fund drive for our niece, Quinlyn, and more importantly for her mother – Julie Sleeper – her sole care giver.

Quinlyn, now 16,  was born with Retts Syndrome. Rett syndrome is a neurodevelopmenal disorder that affects girls almost exclusively. It is characterized by normal early growth and development followed by a slowing of development, loss of purposeful use of the hands, distinctive hand movements, slowed brain and head growth, problems with walking, seizures, and intellectual disability

Julie is Quinlyn’s sole provider and biggest advocate.  She does everything for her – feed her, change her, dress her, pick her up and take her to school, to pool, to physical therapy, to play dates, to the doctors in Boston (and back).  Julie is with Quinlyn when she is sick and when she is well.

Quinlyn has gone through multiple surgeries due to her disability, the most recent of which has left her with rods in her back where she can’t bend her back and is difficult is move her from wheelchair to car seat and back.  She is in pain when in the car seat.

And even though Quinlyn is non verbal, she is quite communicative with her eyes and her smiles.  Quinlyn is now in High School and getting bigger by the day.

With Quinlyn's age and size, Julie her mother, is now unable to easily lift Quinlyn.  On a phone call just the other day, Julie mentioned that she has been unable to take Quinlyn to her physical therapy appointments which are paid for as she can’t lift her in and out of the van easily.  Julie also mentioned that on her last trip to Boston to the doctors, Quinn cried the whole way home riding in the car seat – it is that uncomfortable for her.

For several years Julie has been looking into wheelchair accessible vans.  The vans start at $30k, with an additional $15k for modifications.  Being a single mother, those kind of funds are not possible.

Recently an opportunity has presented itself, where Julie can acquire the much needed wheelchair van from a fellow Rett’s family.  The family is selling their used van to Julie for $20k.

Since we, Beth and I, have seen Julie support Quinlyn her whole life, we are looking to support them.

A wheelchair van would be just what the both of them need!  It will relieve some stress for both of them, make it easier to get Quinlyn to and from appointments, and give Julie one less thing to do for her daughter – that is lift her in and out of a car, along with a heavy wheel chair being lifted into the back.

We know that this is a lot to ask for, but also know that it can be done with all of you helping out.   If you aren't in a position to donate, please put Quinlyn and Julie in your prayers.  Thank you for your consideration and support.
