Quincy started out having what was thought to be just the stomach flu on October 8th. The next day her parents new it was more than just the stomach flu and took her to the emergency room in salmon on the morning of the 9th. Many lab tests and cultures were taken as well as ct scans. After staying in the hospital in Salmon for a couple nights Brad and Dede decided it would be best for Quincy to be at a bigger hospital that could do more if things turned for the worse. Quincy was transported by Life Flight Helicopter to EIRMC in Idaho Falls were it was confirmed she had tested positive for Ecoli 0157 and that it was settled in her lower intestine causing major infection. Ecoli 0157 is one of the worse kinds of bacteria and very dangerous in young children. With the Ecoli 0157 child are at great risk to develop a condition called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome "HUS". During the stay in Idaho Falls the Dr stated that was the biggest concern of her developing as she is so young and it is serious. Her labs were being monitored every 12 hours to keep ahead of the "HUS" if it was to come one. Saturday early morning the Dr after viewing blood work came right in and said it was time to go somewhere better that could help more with the "HUS" as it was for sure coming on. It was going to be about the same time for a Helicopter to come from Salt Lake as it would for the Idaho Falls Ambulance to transport her to Primary Childrens hospital in Salt Lake. So we choose to go ahead and go by ambulance. Since being at Primary Childrens they have learned alot more and experienced the seriousness of this "HUS". The many ups and downs that follows this scary syndrome as her blood & platelets levels dropping dangerously low and kidneys shutting down from the toxins. Quincy has had to have 4 blood transfusions, 1 platlet transfusion and has been on kidney dialysis for 3 days now. Dr's are expecting her to be ok but she could have some extended kidney problems later in life. As far as coming home from the hospital the date is unknown as she has to have daily lab tests and be where they can perform the dialysis and transfusions immediately if needed. Once she is able to come home she will have to go to Idaho Falls weekly for labs and monitoring of her. Followed by some monthly trips to Primary Childrens in Salt Lake with the specialist Dr's. In her current condition it takes both Brad and Dede to care for her so neither are able to work as they are staying in the hospital room with Quincy. All we ask is you please keep good thoughts going Quincys way for a full recovery.
