Quench Arts, in memory of Kieran Binnie
Donation protected
Kieran Binnie was a wonderful, creative, loving husband and father, son and brother. He tragically passed away this April and will be hugely missed by all who knew him. He was an accomplished musician and woodworker, and through his combined passions touched many lives, always building community and encouraging others. To honour his memory the family is asking for donations to the charity Quench Arts, in lieu of flowers, for his funeral on 13 May.
About Quench Arts
Quench Arts were incredibly saddened to hear about the loss of Kieran and are deeply touched that his family wish to honour his memory by donating to our wellbeing programme. Any monies donated will directly benefit new members of our projects, providing one-to-one sessions for people struggling with mental ill health.
Quench Arts is a community interest company based in Birmingham . One of the largest areas of our work is our wellbeing strand, where our main focus is providing creative music making activities for young people and adults who struggle with poor mental health and/or social isolation. We have 2 main community based projects under our wellbeing strand:
Musical Connections – for vulnerable and isolated adults including mental health service users and those with physical disabilities or sensory impairments.
Wavelength – for young people aged 12-18 who have diagnosed mental health conditions or those classed as early intervention.
We also run projects in mental health inpatient settings
Through our sessions, we aim to help build people’s confidence, their self-esteem and self-worth and provide a positive outlet for people to express their feelings and emotions. Initially we work on a one to one basis, encouraging members to write their own songs or music and to build their skills in the process. When they feel ready, they can join group sessions to connect with other members through music, all who’ve faced similar personal challenges, building friendships and a peer support network.
The following video case studies show how participating in creative music making activities can aid recovery and build resilience:
Gary’s Musical Connections story
Helen’s Musical Connections story
Paul’s Musical Connections story
Liz’s Wavelength story
Some examples of music created by members can be heard here .
All of us at Quench Arts are thinking of Kieran’s family and friends at this difficult time. Sadly we didn’t have the opportunity to work with Kieran but we know that music meant a huge amount to him. With your support we hope to be able to help and connect other people through music and make a positive difference to their lives.
