Queerspace FC is a queer grassroots football space based in east London. We are fundraising to subsidise the participation of our non-waged and low-income members in all our activities and to cover some of our operational and outreach costs for the season. Your donation will help us keep our space inclusive, free and diverse!
Our History
Since 2015, Queerspace FC has created space for self-identified queer, lesbian, bi and trans women, trans men, non-binary and intersex people to play football and build community. We run weekly kickabout sessions and participate in competitive local grassroots football leagues and tournaments.
Some exciting things we have been part of recently:
- Republica May Day tournament in Leeds
- Winning 2025 season 1 at Clubs United, Haggerston
- Playing in the Enjoy Charity cup, Stratford
We want to continue to create radical, inclusive and diverse queer community space. For that to happen, we need the support of our wider community and allies to help fund some of our activities in the upcoming season. The funds raised will be used towards:
- Paying for travel costs, covering fees and accommodation for participation in tournaments and leagues for unwaged and low-income members
- Covering running costs for participating in competitions (team entry fees, sports insurance, etc)
- Purchasing every day items needed for running kickabouts and other football activities (bibs, footballs, first-aid kits, etc)
More about us:
WHO WE ARE
Queerspace was founded in 2015 by Jo Chattoo and Grietje Baars with the desire to create a radical queer community centre .
We have organised many different Queerspace events over the years, including open mic nights, jams, film screenings, arts & crafts clubs, and queer pub quizzes. We have participated in many demonstrations and Queer Picnics over the years, and participated in the London Social Centres Network which includes centres like the DIY Space, The Field, Feminist Library, MayDay Rooms, LARC, Decentre and the Outside Project.
Queerspace FC, or Queer Kickabout East, has been our longest running project. We have played weekly on summer evenings in Victoria park since 2016, and expanded to Sundays on Hackney Downs in 2020. We have also participated in dozens of tournaments, and organised the Queer Olympix in Summer 2020. Over the years we estimate several hundreds of queers have participated in our kickabouts.
QUEERSPACE FOOTBALL CLUB
Queerspace FC is a queer grassroots football space based in east London.
We hosts a friendly kickabout run by and for self-identified queer, lesbian, bi and trans women, trans men, non-binary and intersex people. Kickabout takes place weekly on Sunday afternoons in Hackney Downs throughout the year, and on Wednesday evenings in Victoria Park in the summer. These sessions usually involve small-scale, informal matches and are open to people of all abilities. At our kickabouts, we aim to provide a non-competitive space where fun and community building are the main priority.
We also regularly enter more competitive teams in local grassroots football leagues and tournaments. We have continued to build and occupy political spaces, both through football and solidarity with other organisations, including organising Strike Solidarity Tournaments with Clapton Community FC, DIY tournaments on Hackney Downs, and participating in demonstrations that impact on our communities.
We are an explicitly queer, trans, anticapitalist and antiracist space run in a democratic and broadly non-hierarchical way by members organised in a committee and according to a set of values detailed in this link .
