Queerology Podcast: Upgrades for Season 4 + Beyond

Donation protected
Hi Friends!

Last year was a big year for my podcast, Queerology. It was named as one of the “12 Best LGBTQ+ Podcasts” by O: The Oprah Magazine and listed as the #1 podcast to listen to on National Coming Out Day by Radio.com.

Anne Lamott praised it as a "spiritual home for thousands of LGBTQ people of faith" and, indeed, thousands of people all over the world listened.

Yet, last October, I was at the end of my rope and ready to throw in the towel. I sat on my therapist's couch and said: "this may  be the end of Queerology, I don't know if I can do this anymore." I was exhausted and stretched for funds.

With the urging of my mentors and close friends, I put Queerology on hiatus, not knowing if there would ever hear another new episode, fully ready to say "goodbye."

Something remarkable happened. Instead of folks saying goodbye to me, people started reaching out, offering support, and sending message after message with stories of how Queerology has changed their lives.

Downloads have gone UP not down. There's a huge need for this show, and, I miss making it!

Queerology is coming back with a whole new look. It's moving to an every other week format (to prevent burnout), and I'm so excited about what Season 4 is going to bring. We'll continue to tackle issues of equity, chat about disability justice, and, in classic Queerology format, bring deep conversations with both folks you've heard of and folks you haven't.

Like I've said in almost every episode, I create Queerology on a shoestring budget. Currently, I lug my desktop computer back and forth to my closet for recording episodes and use a cheap mic that I bought on a grad-school budget.

To launch Queerology into Season 4 + beyond, I'd like to upgrade the equipment I use to make the show, from something I've jumbled together to an actual studio setup. Your ears will thank you.

I've consulted with some folks and am asking for $5,000 to create a podcast studio which will set Queerology up for the future.

This money will allow me to purchase a laptop plus studio-grade mics & gear.

The total cost of these is roughly $4,300. The remainder of this money (and any above) will go towards supplementing costs associated with making Queerology accessible for everyone (transcription fees, which are almost $100/episode, etc.)

Queerology is coming back no matter what, but let's set it up to compete with the major big-budget studios, and launch it into the future so we can continue to change lives!

So grateful for your continued support, and I'll see you on the air,
-Matthias
