My name is Katrina and I’m a queer, trans person of color that is pursuing top surgery.

I have felt trans nonbinary my whole life, but up until a few years ago, I haven’t had the language to describe my gender identity or a community that fully supports me in my gender journey.

Ever since I hit puberty I’ve felt dysphoric with my chest. Physically and psychologically, my chest has been an enormous burden. Having a chest and being forced to wear bras and binders to support/hide it is extremely uncomfortable. I wake up everyday exhausted that I have to bear this psychological and physical weight for another day. 

By getting top surgery, I will finally feel comfortable and at peace with my body. I will no longer feel trapped by this chest that I’ve never wanted.  My body will finally align with my gender identity and fundamentally, who I am. This surgery will significantly improve my health and well-being. 

My goal is to raise $6,000 by my surgery date in February 2021. This will cover surgery costs as well as any post-op costs. I’ve been constantly working since the age of 16 and completely self-sufficient since I graduated high school. Because I received no college fund help, I came out of college with significant loan debt. I still have about $40,000 of student loan debt to pay off and as a preschool teacher, I will not be able to alleviate this debt for a very long time.
