Queer Trans Couple Hit While Driving
Donation protected
The white cis officer was particularly passive-aggressive and disrespectful to my partner (we are trans and non-binary black folx). The officer's partner hand continued to hover and graze their firearm. The possibility of involving a weapon was terrifying for us, as this was a simple traffic incident.
We are very triggered after having to have this police interaction at all. Upon retrieving the police report, the officer indicated that the other driver (a cis non-black man) was the victim, stating that I disregarded the stop sign. There is no account of my or my partner's statement. The damages sustained by the car also indicates that the driver ran into us, directly contradicting the police report.
We believe the police officer intentionally sided with the driver because we made it known that we were driving a rental and would incur a $3,000 fee. After all, Getaround's clause makes no exceptions for damages to the rental. We are trying to secure funds to cover the costs that were wrongfully responsible for, chiropractic adjustments, and any further fees. We just secured housing (Moving from another state). Currently, due to the impact of COVID, only one of us has part-time employment, and this could severely affect us financially.
Any help from community would be deeply appreciated, Thank you!
