Queer Tango Festivalito | COVID-19

Update:

Dear beautiful tango community,

Thank you so very much. In 3 days, with a combination of gofundme, venmo and students who did not take a refund on their pre-paid festival passes, we exceeded our fundraising goal. I was stunned and touched by how many of you reached out with kind words and generous support from the Bay Area tango community,  from queer tango communities across across the US, from abroad, from dancers who had moved away from the Bay Area but still had mad love for us....THANK YOU.

We are ending this fundraiser tonight, 3/13, 12 pm. I can't de-activate until the cash is transferred.  No additional donations needed. We met our goal.

Things are changing so quickly.  Early tonight we learned of a pending travel ban to BsAs. Gaston is leaving tomorrow morning, 3/14 at 7 am, more than a week early. Thank you to Ivette and Alma del Tango for their fast work getting him a flight.  Ivette and I will take him to the airport in the morning with 70% of the profit and the good wishes of all of you.

I cannot thank you enough. Be well my kindred, and as always, may your heart be filled with as much joy as you can handle.

Long live tango!

Due to COVID-19 and the March 10th statement from the Alameda Public Health Department, we are cancelling our 2020 Festivalito with Gaston and the rest of our March events. http://www.acphd.org/2019-ncov.aspx

This yearly festival is one of two queer tango festivals in the USA, we spend 8 months planning it, and it's quite stunning to cancel. However, we feel our first responsibility as a dance community is to keep each other safe. When this all passes, we will dance it up again!

BIG ASK:

Please help us mitigate the loss of income for both Gaston and Abrazo. We will split the profits 70/30 with Gaston, after taxes and fees.

70% will go to Gaston to cover the cost of his flight (he came here from Buenos Aires on his own dime) and part of his lost income.

30% of your donation will go to Abrazo to fund our 2021 festival—as the income from each festival funds the next as well as our weekly classes. We will also pay Finnish Hall,  a non-profit organization,  our regular (non festival) rental fees for March, to help them cover rental losses.

Thank you very much for supporting Bay Area Queer Tango.

As always, wishing you all the joy your heart can hold.
