Love Muscle has created this fundraiser on behalf of one of their resident DJs, a queer brown trans person who needs to remain anonymous for the safety and wellbeing of some of their family members and themselves.

“I am a trans, non-binary activist, DJ and artist currently living in Leeds. Other than Love Muscle, you might know me from parties/ causes Flesh in Tension, House of Flava and the artist duo that rhymes with Flower Face ;). I’m proud to be non-binary and trans, and if you know me, you’ll know it’s something I am lucky enough to be vocal about and amplify in my work in the UK.
The country I was born in has anti-LGBTQIA laws (it is still illegal to be LGBTQIA), which are often more strict for their Muslim population (we can face Shari’a law). I am born into Islam, am documented as so, and my family who lives back home are all Muslim. Because of this, I am unable to be openly trans and queer back home. Even though I go back often, I have to be in the closet and find ways to protect myself.
I am doing this fundraiser anonymously because I want to have more time with the younger members of my family, and continue to get to know them. Selective hearing only gets me so far and if this fundraiser was not anonymous, there is a real possibility that I will be unable to go back to where I am from. There is also a real chance that not only would my safety and wellbeing be put at risk, but it could put certain other members of my family at risk too.

I’ve desperately tried to alter how I look (specifically my chest), mostly damaging my body since I was 11 years old. I’m now in my late 20s and am struggling to see a way to go on. I can’t tell you how much achieving this fundraiser would help me to exist. All I want is to move forward in life as the person I am in my mind, soul and heart.
I am also raising an additional £600 to support a queer brown Muslim who is in vital need of therapy right now and is in a similar circumstance to my own in terms of their family and being outed.

Fundraiser breakdown:
£9,469 will cover the cost of top surgery with a private clinic in London, the consultation appointment and travel to and from the consultation and appointments.
£600 will be used for an anonymous queer Muslim PoC to receive vital therapy which is necessary and essential to their wellbeing and safety right now. We hope to achieve 10 sessions at a subsidised rate.
