Help launch Queer & Trans Artists of Color, Vol 3!

Donation protected
My name is Nia King and I'm a queer mixed-race (Black/Lebanese/Hungarian) artist and activist. I lived in Oakland, CA from 2008 until I was displaced earlier this year. While living in Oakland, I started a podcast called We Want the Airwaves  on which I interview political queer and trans artists of color about their lives and their work with a focus on the question "it is possible to make art and make rent without compromising your values?"

In 2014, I self-published a collection of 16 interviews from the podcast called Queer & Trans Artists of Color: Stories of Some of Our Lives  with my co-editors Terra Mikalson and Jessica Glennon-Zukoff. In 2016, I self-published another collection of 16 interviews from the podcast, Queer & Trans Artists of Color, Volume 2, with co-editor Elena Rose. My current co-editor, Maliha Ahmed (left), and I are almost finished working on Queer & Trans Artists of Color, Volume 3, and I'm asking you to help us launch the book in Oakland!

The book launch will be a talk-show style event where I'll interview queer and trans artists of color live before an audience at East Bay Booksellers  on Saturday, October 19th from 7-8:30 PM. It's going to be free and open to the public. Here's what we need to make it happen:

$400 to pay the artists who will be interviewed and/or performing
$300 for American Sign Language interpretation
$200 to provide free food for all the guests
$100 for GoFundMe fees

Artists featured in the book include:

Star Amerasu  (musician and performance artist)
Gabby Rivera  (novelist and comics writer)
Kamal Al-Solaylee  (journalist)
Osa Atoe  (musician/zinester/potter)
Kai Cheng Thom  (performance poet and author)

Here's the audio from our last talk-show style book launch. Thank for your support!
