Goal: Help ‘Queens of the Desert’- a team of middle schoolers represent their school and the state of Oregon at the Destination Imagination- Global Finals competition.
Dear friends,
Thank you for visiting our campaign page. We are a team of four middle school students at the Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering (BASE), who have secured a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete in a global STEAM-based educational tournament in Kansas City. This tournament- ‘Destination Imagination-Globals 2024’- is our chance to represent our school, community and the Oregon state on an international stage. It will give us a chance to learn, compete, work as a team and also make new friends from around the world.
Our curiosity about science and the interest in STEAM-based activities brought us together as a team – leading to competing at Destination Imagination (DI) 2024. Through our hard work for the past 7 months, and with unwavering support from our families, we won the 1st place trophy at the state DI competition and a special award (Renaissance award) for originality and excellence in research, teamwork and presentation. The next stop on this wonderful journey was receiving the invitation to travel to Kansas City and compete at the Global Finals of Destination Imagination (DI) in May 2024. This journey so far has provided us with valuable educational experiences that will propel us on the path of success for the rest of our lives.
Although an exciting opportunity, participation at DI- Global comes with a substantial financial cost. To realize our dream and our path to this destination, we would like to request your support. No matter how big or small, each dollar counts and your support will make a huge difference in helping our team achieve this goal.
Thank you for taking the time to read our message and for considering supporting us. We promise to make the most of this opportunity and make you proud !!
Sincerely,
Gatee, Akshara, Agamya, Asmi
About ‘Queens of The Desert’
Eighth grade students from Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering (BASE) – Beaverton Oregon: Gatee, Akshara, Agamya, and Asmi
These four girls came together as a team due to their common love of science, interest in research, and their desire to represent their school and the community at science-based competitions. The theme of their project for this year’s DI- state competition was ‘Blast From the Past’- a longitudinal project-based challenge based on archeology, ancient culture, and application of current science to the study of ancient artifacts. Through the tireless work of seven months, this team created artistic backdrops, engineering components, light effects and complex technical elements that they weaved seamlessly into a self-written musical skit. Based on the backdrop of ancient Egyptian pyramids, their work earned them high praises from the judges at the State competition, a 1st place prize and a special award (Renaissance award) for originality and excellence in research, teamwork and presentation.
They are truly looking forward to presenting their work at the world stage and represent their school at the global level.
