Bring the Jewish Music of Queen Kong to Ireland

Queen Kong has been invited to perform on Saturday the 19th of January at a prestigious showcase in Killarney, Ireland called "Your Roots Are Showing". We would be the only band showcasing Jewish music, a genre we feel is important to amplify right now. In addition, we are going to do a full performance in Dublin's Jewish Museum. Music is the great unifier, ground-leveller, feelings-maker - but we can't represent Jewish music and spread the good vibes to the extent that we'd like if we can't get our foot in the door of the bigger international showcases.

Queen Kong is a 6-piece award-winning Jewish/Klezmer/Funk/Jazz/Improv band. We've been together since 2019, and have performed at venues and music festivals all over Canada. In 2024, we won the Canadian Folk Music Award for "Instrumental Group of the Year" , as well as a nomination for "Instrumental Composer of the Year", and in 2023, a nomination for "Performing Group of the Year" from the Ontario Arts Council.

Led by drummer and composer Lorie Wolf, Queen Kong seamlessly blends the Ashkenazi Klemzer Jewish idiom with jazz, free improv

and rock to explore new sounds and ideas. Our aim is to push the boundaries of what can be considered Jewish/Klezmer music. The results are melodies both familiar and new, harmonies that take the listener on a trip from the sacred to the profane, and contemplative compositions that are complex yet groovy as hell.

We need your help!

Conferences and Showcases are where bands go to be noticed by industry folks and festival buyers; it's how they get themselves on the map. Problem is, bands are expected to fund the entire trip including flights, accommodations, food, travel... We've gotten two grants already, by it's not enough. We're about $7000 short.

The money we raise will be used to subsidize the costs of:

- Plane tickets (roughly $800 per person if we include luggage and instrument transportation)

- Accommodation (4 nights at at least $400 a night)

- Food (roughly $100 per person per day)

- Train travel (Dublin to Killarney and back, roughly $75 per person)

In exchange for a donation of over $100 we will:

- Send you a signed copy of our latest, award-winning release "FRAY" as a bonus thank you
