Queen Elizabeth Home for the Children
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Michael and I recently traveled to the Caribbean island of Grenada. While we were there, we spent two days at Queen Elizabeth Home for the Children. It is an orphanage that houses 40 kids from age 3 -13. All of these sweet children were removed from their homes by Child Protective Services due to the risk of being harmed.
This organization is run by the Director, beautiful Marion Pierre, who is 84 and still works there full time taking care of the children. Her passsion and commitment is the only reason the home survives. They receive minimal goverment funding that provides just enough to pay modest salaries to a few staff members that tend to the children. For everything else, they rely on the generosity of caring people to support the critical needs of the chilren, so they can have some semblance of a normal life.
We were so touched by Marion and the children under her. care that we are going to help them. Among many issues, they need the walls of the run down building to be painted. They also need furniture, including chairs, and tables, so the kids have a place to sit and eat or do homework. There are no pillows on the beds and the sheets are in tatters. Much of the food in the house is rotting and there is very little to go around.
We are setting up this GoFundMe page, so we can work as a community to help this struggling organization. As a incentive to motivate support, we are going match dollar for dollar all contributions up to $10,000. In addition, a small group of us will be traveling back to the Grenada in the next few months to spend time working at the home making these much needed improvements.
We hope you will help us with this worthy endeavor. Anything you can do, we will appreciate greatly.
Gratefully yours,
Alicia
