Hello Everyone!!!
We are group of Fresno State graduates that love to play percussion. More importantly, we are committed to advancing the art form and commissioning new music. Composers need to be compensated for their work...And that's where you come in!
We are just starting our quartet, and we need your help to raise the money to get these pieces commissioned. It costs approximately $2000 per piece, and we are looking at three completely new works for percussion quartet. In addition, we have two other fairly recent compositions by Fresno composers that will be recorded as well.
We also need a little money for our time to prepare this project and get it performed. Some of the funds will be used to pay our quartet a nominal service fee for our preparation and recording time. The remaining amount will be used to book halls, travel to venues, and get the new works recorded.
Here is a breakdown of how your funds will be spent:
3 commissions - $6000 ($2000 each)
Quartet Fee - $2000 ($500 to each player)
Venue booking/travel Expenses - $2000
Recording/mastering fees - $2000
Go fund me fees - $500
TOTAL - $12,500
Excited yet? Check out the composers we are enlisting:
Commission 1: Dr. Kenneth Froelich
His composition "Accidental Migration" won the 2007 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest
Check it out: Accidental Migration
Commission 2: Alexis Alrich
Alexis Alrich's "Concerto for Marimba" was performed by Dame Evelyn Glennie.
Check it out: Concerto for Marimba
Commission 3: Dr. Randall Cornelison
Percussionist and composer. Studied with David Gillingham and wrote the music for the hit iTunes game "Way to Gold".
Recording 1: Dr. Gary Smith
We will be making a professional recording of "North of Nysa". It is a five movement work for percussion quartet. Each of the movements is approximately 3 mins in length.
Hear the premiere here!
Recording 2: Joseph Bohigian
"5:1" is a piece for five players on one marimba. I believe it to be an excellent addition to the repertoire.
