Help Quartet Novalis Go International!

Hi everyone!

We are super excited to share that Quartet Novalis has been invited to perform concerts as part of the Utrecht Fringe Series in September. This series, which runs concurrently with the Utrecht Early Music Festival, is a vital platform for emerging talent, offering young musicians the chance to perform in historic venues throughout the city and receive valuable feedback from early music professionals. We will be performing some of our favorite works of Hyacinthe Jadin, Fanny Hensel, and Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga.

We are also excited to share that we have been invited to compete in the live rounds of the prestigious Wassenaer Competition, which takes place in Utrecht during its Early Music Festival. The repertoire requirements for this year’s competition align perfectly with our current projects, and it’s a unique opportunity for us to present our work to an international audience and jury.

We are grateful that our time in Utrecht includes both concert performances and a competition appearance, allowing us to showcase our ensemble multiple times, regardless of the competition outcome. Preparing for these events pushes us artistically and professionally, demanding the highest standards of performance and collaboration.

We are thrilled to pursue these ventures and have already secured partial funding for travel from the Holland Society of New York. We are still hoping to raise approximately $3,000 which will go directly towards the remaining costs of airfare and accommodations. We are grateful for any support and look forward to sharing this project with you!

Formed in 2024, Quartet Novalis is a period-performance ensemble based in New York City composed of Eliana Estrada, Ela Kodžas, Annemarie Schubert, and Luka Stefanović. Taking its name from the 18th-century German polymath and philosopher whose beliefs centered around dissolving the barriers between language and the surrounding world, the quartet seeks to bring a fresh perspective to the string quartet repertoire by performing on historically-appropriate instruments and engaging with historical methods, drawing out subtle and highly nuanced textures and impressions while breathing life into repertoire that has fallen by the wayside.
