Quaker Elder Seeks Support for Medical Costs

Greetings family, friends, colleagues, and supporters.
Our dear friend, Jerry Leaphart, was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital on March 10th needing emergency heart surgery. After the surgery, he remained on life support for many weeks. At times, he was near death. He now faces another radical surgical intervention - a below the knee amputation of his right leg and the toes of his left foot. His recovery will be extremely long. We are on a mission to make sure he can recover at home. Jerry is severely immuno-compromised and highly vulnerable to Covid-19. We are therefore desperate to avoid his admission to a nursing home. Jerry **urgently** needs our help to secure at-home hands-on care. Your financial contribution will go towards covering the cost of this at-home care, as well as the cost of his hospital bills and time in rehab and other costs detailed below.
As a community, we can help ease the financial burden that looms over our dear friend. Here are some of the expenses we anticipate: $10,500 for at-home care over six months, $6,000 for a portion of medical co-pays, $4,000 for a ramp - installation and rental, and $2,000 for medical equipment. Your generosity is much appreciated. No contribution is too small.
Jerry is a long-time member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and has faithfully served his Monthly Meeting (Wilton) and New York Yearly Meeting. He is a past Board Member of Connecticut Friends School and currently sits on the Advisory Council and Board of Friends Center for Children. As a deeply spiritual person, he has committed his life to social justice and activism, both as a lawyer and a Quaker.
