New Rugby Wheelchair

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Michael Peacock and I would really appreciate your help and support in the furthering of my wheelchair rugby career!

In 2003 I dove head first into a swimming pool and broke my neck resulting in a C6 spinal cord injury but that hasn't slowed me down or changed my attitude towards living a full and successful life! I was fortunate to find wheelchair rugby while I was still doing my inpatient rehabilitation therapy at TIRR Memorial Hermann and it was during this time that I fell in love with the game. In fact, as soon as I was cleared of my neck brace I started practicing with the local team. This sport is much more than just a game, it's a global brotherhood that I would truly be lost without. On the court we are all just as competitive and intense as any other able-bodied sport and off the court we're all able to share stories and real life experiences of what living life with  a disability is really like. The things we learn from each other are more valuable than gold at times. I'm extremely thankful that I found this sport right after my injury becasue it has made living life with a disability so much easier. I am now going into my 14th season with the TIRR Texans and I could not be more excited about the potential our team has in the upcoming season.

Unfortunately, wheelchair rugby is a very expensive sport to play and I created this account to help aide in the cost of it.

Equipment Costs:

I would really like to be able to get a new custom fit rugby chair this year and the cost for a new chair alone is anywhere from $5,000-$6,500. I also go through numerous tires, tubes, axles, bearings, caster wheels, spokes, and spoke guards throughout the season for my chair. On top of that I go through several pairs of gloves, at least 2 boxes of athletic tape, several sheets of red rubber for grip, arm sleeves, and straps for securement to the chair.

Tournament Costs:

The majority of our tournaments are out of town and often out of state so we travel quite a bit. Attending tournaments requires taking time off work, paying for airfare, hotel fees, and eating out. We try to attend at least 5 tournaments a season not including post-season which is an additional 2 tournaments as long as you qualify for nationals.

As you can see the cost of this sport adds up quickly and with out the assistance of sponsors or family and friends I would not be able to play such an amazing game! Any contribution at all would be greatly appreciated and go towards my upcoming rugby season! This sport is much more than just a game to me, it's a way of life! Thank you for taking the time to read my campaign and I hope you have a very blessed day!
