Quadriplegic loses Financial Aid

Maria José Lopez, better known as COCO, is a 35-year-old Elite Mexican athlete, mother of 2 young children, wife, sister, daughter and friend, among many other things.

On September 19, 2021, in the last training for an Ironman, Coco crashed into a car, injuring her spine at C6 and C7, causing quadriplegia. She has refused the odds of not walking again, and thanks to her everyday dedication and hard work, she can now stand up, move her arms and swim again, but this comes with a heavy toll, 12/7 therapy and assistance.

Update: Thanks to your generous donations, coco was able to get 1 year of critical nursing aid that has allowed her to focus 100% on her recovery. She is now able to swim, and is in the process of getting a robotic skeleton that will allow her to walk.

Below in coco's own words, her daily routine and struggles:

I depend on others for personal daily hygiene such as bathing, dressing, transferring in and out of bed, meal preparations, housekeeping, incontinence supplies, gloves, masks, disinfectant wipes etc. These expenses are coming out of pocket on my fixed income with other monthly expenses as well. Therefore, I need additional funding to help me maintain the portion of health and wellness that I have.

As a quadriplegic, I have frequent pressure sores when lying in bed for many days. This month insurance stopped paying a nurse for my care and getting out of bed every day to prevent skin breakdowns.

Your monetary donation will be a blessing and greatly appreciated. By the grace of God, it would help improve my health and quality of life tremendously! Your generosity would allow me to get up more and become more active and independent. Not to mention the stress it would relieve.
