Support Nick's Long Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Nick Evans was involved in a very bad UTV accident; he was on his way home and hit 2 deer, the crash caused him to leave the road, hit a mailbox and roll several times. Nick was ejected and landed on his head. A concerned neighbor heard the crash and called 911 immediately – bringing paramedics to the scene quickly. Nick was med-flighted to Gundersen in La Crosse where they discovered he was internally decapitated; after an extensive surgery to put a permanent plate on his skull and a rod to reconnect his spine, they also discovered he had some bruising on his brain stem, blood on the brain and he had suffered a stroke.
Nick is going on week 2 in the ICU, he developed pneumonia and was intubated for 6 days, he is now off the breathing tube but receiving daily nebulizer treatments. Nick is awake and has control of his left arm and leg, he can follow commands and answer questions with hand signs. His right side is not responding to stimulation, and he is unable to talk at this time.
This kind of traumatic brain injury involves a long recovery, only 5% of people with this type of injury make it this far. Nick will be hospitalized for likely months and will have to go through extensive physical therapy. Nick does have health insurance that will help with medical bills, however he does not have disability leave from work and is using all his vacation and PTO to keep up on his living expenses.
We do not have all the answers yet for Nick’s recovery, we don’t know if he will be able to walk, drive, live alone, or go back to work. We do know that he needs our support now more than ever- mentally, spiritually, and financially; Nick has a long road ahead of him and not having to worry about money will help ease the burden on Nick and his family.
If you are not comfortable donating via Go Fund Me, please reach out to his brother Brad Evans or cousin Bobbi Paulson, and they can help you make a direct donation to the family. An account has also been set up at Tomah Area Credit Union under Nick Evans Recovery.
