On September 19th, my mother, Heather Parkhurst, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of triple-negative breast cancer.

She is getting a bilateral mastectomy on November 5th. Treatment is going to be a long, hard journey both physically and financially. This will include multiple surgeries, 5-6 months of chemo, and radiation. Insurance only partially covers treatment and our family will be paying much of the expenses out of pocket. With finances already tight given my father's own recent melanoma diagnosis and my mother being out of work due to having her third back surgery this June, this is going to be a tough year ahead.
